Creating A Facebook Group

In the video above I walk you through the process of creating a Facebook Group.
Just like creating a Facebook Page, in order to create a Facebook Group, you first have to create a Facebook Profile. If you have not yet created a Profile for yourself, please go back and do so now. You will not be able to create a Facebook Group without first creating a Facebook Profile.
To create a Group for your business or school, go to: www.facebook.com/groups.php
Then click on the “Create A New Group” button.
You will then be asked to enter the Group name as well as a description for the Group. You’ll also be asked to place the Group in a category and provide contact information for Group members.
After entering the information you wish to provide to your Group members, click the blue “Create Group” button at the bottom of the page.
You will then be asked to upload the photo that will identify your group. You may want to use your business or school’s logo or you may wish to use some other image. Because a Group may be created to represent a sports team, your school’s student government, a teacher’s Group, Employee Group or any other such thing, it is not necessarily the best idea to use your logo for every and any Group you create for your organization. Instead, try and use a picture that best identifies what the Group is for. If it is a teacher’s Group, use a photo of the teachers at your school, for example. If it is a Group for the football team, use the team photo.
After selecting your Group’s photo, enter the corresponding website (if you have one).
You are then given a number of options. Watch the video above to see my recommendations on these settings.
You’ll then be given the choice of controlling the access to your Group. If you are using your Group to keep in contact with everyone in your community, then you should leave your Group open. But if you are creating a Group just for your student government, employees, management or just for your teachers and staff, then you will probably want to make your Group a closed Group. This will require each member wanting access to the Group to first be approved by you before they can join the Group.
If you don’t want Facebook users to know that you have a teachers Group, for example, then you would select “This group is secret.” This makes it so your Group does not show up in the Facebook Group search results and requires that you to manually invite your Facebook friends to your Group. I don’t recommend you pick this setting in most situations, as it is much more difficult to get people to join your Group in this way.
Then click “Save”.
Your Group has been created!
